The Legacy of Heirloom Portraiture

A southern take on an ordinarily common photograph, heirloom portraits focus on encapsulating the innocence of childhood. Traditionally, heirloom portraits are headshots taken in front of a clean, white backdrop with very little to no props focusing solely on the child. Appropriate attire consists of classic styles comprised of beautifully smocked dresses for the young ladies with details such as delicate lace trim or ruffle accents and neutral, light colors. For young gentlemen, Peter Pan collars are standard keeping color tones neutral or light blue. These portraits are timeless and precisely chosen to age tastefully. Heirloom portraits are carefully and purposefully curated to preserve each perfect detail of your little one's sweet little face. These classic and vignetted fine art portraits will become your most cherished family heirlooms framed on your wall and one day connect generations.

Common Questions
The answers to your questions
What age is best for Heirloom Portraits?
With the classic simplicity of a white backdrop, any age can be beautifully photographed. However, Heirloom Portraits traditionally feature children in their early years between the ages of 6 months and 8 years old with ages 3-4 being the most common. At this age, your child can likely sit still and take direction. However, the second most common age for heirloom portraits is in the 1st year. Luckily, I have acquired a few tricks up my sleeve to accommodate the short attention span of little ones. Some parents even opt to do a composite of major milestones including shots on the tummy, sitting and standing.

What is included in the deposit?
This deposit covers your sitting fee (photo shoot day) and reserves your session date and time. It does not include any prints or digital copies of photos. Prints are sold separately.
My child will not sit still, is that an issue?
This is not a problem! I am not new to dealing with little personalities and have a few tricks up my sleeve to ensure we get great photos. I encourage all parents to bring their child’s favorite small toy/blanket/stuffie. I have props if needed and a few tricks up my sleeve to maintain engagement. For children younger than one yr and those who may be shy, I do allow the parent to sit next to the child during the photoshoot (don't worry, I can edit you out!).

What is different about Heirloom Portraits vs. other photography styles?
Heirloom Portraits are a category of Fine Art Portraiture. In creating Fine Art, there is a greater level of editing needed that requires a significant amount of time and attention to detail. As you will see with fine art, it often times has a 'painted' or 'drawn' effect giving the timeless & classic look the style is known for. Additionally, Fine Art is traditionally printed on a very high-quality paper made from cotton to preserve its details.
How long does it take to receive my artwork?
Artwork orders are placed once you have paid your final invoice. At that time an expected completion date range will given. We take pride in our work and strive to provide a quality product in a timely manner.
Can I buy digital files only?
Digital files are not available for purchase however, you will receive a digital copy of all printed portraits which you will have rights to print on your own. Please keep in mind, quality of prints can only be guaranteed on our fine art paper.
